World peace o.o
Or at least it is so in the Steph-verse. o.o;

All right, perhaps nothing so earth-shattering as that. I just woke up this morning (read: afternoon) and realized that I like Tifa.

>.>; I said 'twas insignificant. However! Anyone who's seen me go on about the subject will know I'm a pretty solid Aeris girl. Now I've never been a bit player in the unending tale of chaos and strife (...oh look I made an indirect shipping comment and I didn't even notice) that is the Aeris/Tifa war-front because I tend to think those are stupid, just like any and all anti-anything sites/comms floating around. So no, I've never actually been up-in-arms hating the girl, but I take badly to girls who screw with their boy's heads and lie to them just so she can pretend everything has and is peachy-keen between the two of them.

Then I re-watched Advent Children, finished it, thought some, started playing FFVII some more, died, thought some more, went to sleep (note: this was now at about six in the morning), regained consciousness at about 11:30, and tried to continue writing the Tifa section of a fanfic. (Yes, I will write and allude to ships that are not my pets; I can live with them in canon, I can live with them in fic) Then came my revelation.

That tiny little shiver of "...hrmph" was gone. Poof! Vanished. On its heels came the realization that AC!Tifa's grown up. I have a soft spot in my heart for characters that noticeably matures in character. (see: Relena Peacecraft) Thus~

In other news, only semi-related to Tifa, am I the only one who watched SEVENTH HEAVEN Music Station 04.06.07 and cringed at both the song and Hyde's dancing? D: I've wandered through Pieces and several other LJ communities and everyone I see keeps harping on his awesomeness and the song's awesomeness and how well the band played (...it's a TV performance, the band doesn't actually play their instruments, damn it!), etc, etc? (link by ninix33 from Pieces) I mean, it's not a bad song but it's so... repetitive. :(

AH! :D I, for one, think the song is just okay :D;; I was thinking it'll grow on me, and I'm hoping it will, but I kinda doubt it :/ I dunno. We'll see~

Haha I used to be a pure Tifa fan, but now after watching AC... and I guess maturing a bit, I actually don't mind Aeris, and I like them both equally now ^^;;

HAH! *pounces on* Thank you! I think it will grow on me eventually (Hikki's English album did, although I usually take it in small doses ^^) but my first impression was a "o.o;; schwaaa? DDD:" (coherent, I know ;p)

And hehe, it's always one side or the other. Oddly enough, Aeris was one of the ones in my party who did awesome physical damage. @.@; Which was odd as I'm pretty sure she was best at spells which I don't like to use, but oh well! ^_^; Awesome party members always make me <3 and I thought she was adorable from the start, so!

>.>; Okay, and I confess I had a bit of a bias from surrounding friends. I played it later than they. That gave them plenty of time to feed me into the "grawr Tifa grawr" mindset. ^_~

LOL I'm hoping it'll grow on me, because right now I'm leaning towards the "I liked Link bettterrrrr ;o;" side XD;; BUT. ... that better change. \:D/

Haha I dunno, I always liked Tifa more because I felt bad for her. ^^;; And Aeris just annoyed me at first. I didn't even care that Sephiroth killed her. HORRIBLE, YES. But now, I really don't mind her... and, in its essence, her death was horrible. But it also proves Sephiroth is the most badass villain EVER. No one can touch him. End of story. XD

Link struck me as an okay song. It wasn't amazing, but the music video made me giggle so I didn't mind it so much. 'Course that might be about the time I started craving Lindsay Lohan, so I suppose at it's worst, one could say my taste took a total 360 for a brief while. ^_^;

Mmmmyes. Ah Sephiroth, always such a hit with the ladies. And he's a stellar dancer.

I dunno, I always liked Tifa. I much prefer FF VIII in the long run though anyway, so that doesn't much matter.

Read what I wrote on Pieces, it sums up and answers your criticisms. The song is a new sound for them, and it's a dance song if you have heard dance music you know it can be repetitive. I think hyde was having a great time with singing the new song, he looked to be in high spirits.

I've always liked Cloud, and it first appalled me how she treated him, first as kids, then with her taking advantage of Cloud's memory loss before I realized hey, characterization for that was sound. One has to have faults in order to get better after all, so I've come to conclude I don't begrudge her the past. :3 And I don't know, I found FFVIII a bit too linear for my tastes. *shrug* Then again, I haven't played it in full for a long while now, so I can't really remember.

And yes, I have heard dance music. As a whole, I don't like it. It numbs my brain and I can't stand listening to it for long. So sure, it's a new style that they're experimenting with, and sure I like it better than I do other dance tracks that I've heard over the years, but I don't think the vocals match the music very well. I don't know anything about technical so I can't back myself up that way but even with Hyde's vocals aside, I still think the music's only okay. And yeah I'm glad he's happy to be performing with L'Arc and everything again, but I still thought he looked exhausted. :(

FF VIII seems to be the one that gets the most haters, not saying you are one, but I can handle it being a non favorite of many.

I have no idea what you mean when you say "I don't think the vocals match the music very well" I just don't get that. Everyone wanted to hear another style from them, and they delivered. It's not a technical masterpiece, that's just not the type of song it is.

Anyway, when doesn't hyde look tired? And what does that have to do with anything?
rinoa.aetheristic on April 10th, 2007 09:35 pm (UTC)
I love FFVIII myself. :D
Stephanie: camwhoremirroredsakura on April 10th, 2007 09:43 pm (UTC)
Haha, me hate FFVIII? Oh hell no, that'd mean being able to resist Squall's pretty eyes and the badass sexy that is Seifer. I even like Rinoa. And her attacks of awesomeness, though I do feel incredibly sorry for her dog. ;p

I just thought they were too hard for the music. Perhaps he was trying for contrast, I don't know. And I can't think of a better description of what I want to say because then I'd have to use the technical terms that I do not know. And everyone wanted to hear a different style from them, sure, who doesn't? I also think they want to hear a different style from them that they will like and I think that's the most important difference. It doesn't have to be a technical masterpiece. It has to be a song I like. Instinctively. And that makes the difference for me. I don't think I should be beholden to like something just because it's new and they worked very hard to be new and they're my favorite band.

Heh, it's true. But shrug, you were going by appearances, so I pointed out my two cents about my impression of their appearance on stage too. ^_^
Ryugoryu482 on April 10th, 2007 10:13 pm (UTC)
I didn't comment for FF stuff anyway.

I'm not saying you have to like it. I just think falling back on "it's repetitive" or "it doesn't fit" is too easy. For me, I don't just throw songs out for reasons that are most likely artistic choices. I like it genuinely, I thought it was a fun song. We haven't heard the full recorded version yet anyway. Beholden, huh, well I know I feel obligated to support them.

I wasn't going by appearances in the sense you think then. Being in high spirits isn't a physical look, it's an impression that I gathered from him, in his performance. I didn't want to comment on appearance at all actually.

Awww, but then I wouldn't have any reason to hire you! And that simply won't do! ^^

I always liked Tifa. Despite the mistakes she made, I found her to be incredibly brave and devoted. I can imagine it would be really hard to deal with a guy like Cloud, especially when Aerith comes along and seems to connect with him instantly. XD But yes, she has grown up a lot come AC. I admire Tifa, and even more in the movie. :D

That said though, the rivalry between the two camps pisses me off. Despite their rivalry, Aerith and Tifa are friends. Actually, in some ways they're closer than the rest of the cast. Tifa's the one who seems most affected, along with Cloud of course, by Aerith's death, and there are a lot of things they admire about each other, this much is clear. So I dunno why fans feel it's necessary to make one evil. Because... neither of them are. -_-

And I'm not big on the new song either. >_>;;; Actually, after AWAKE, I was kind of disappointed but... I hope the next song will be better anyway. ^^
Stephanie: jenova love!mirroredsakura on April 10th, 2007 09:58 pm (UTC)
I will admit, I set out determined not to like her after reading and listening to so much of the talk around the game, because I played it a whole lot later than the rest of the world. (Note: I still haven't finished it yet, but I'm at the North Crater and already know how the battle/ending is going to go, so that's like having played it, right? ^^;;;:) And for a while, I thought there was reason to. I'm easily swayed, and hell if the Tifa/Aeris thing wasn't something that could easily sway a person to choose one side or the other.

And then I realized how childish that seemed, because yeah, the two of them are friends, and watching Tifa burst into tears over Aeris is touching, even in cute little polygon form. So it didn't take long at all for me to accept her place with the rest of the cast, but it was a new thing in particular to realize I like her for that place too. >.>; I'm weird, what can I say. ^^; My favorite female(?) character from FFVII is Jenova. ;p

And oh I hear you. I didn't much like Link now that I think back on it, but I think SHINE's a pretty nice song. Kind of similar to a lot that they've been doing lately, but nice.

On SEVENTH HEAVEN - ehh, it's an all right song. I don't outright dislike it or anything and it'll probably just grow on me the more I listen (granted, so far I've only watched that performance once, and I was distracted). I was mostly just going "Yaay, yaaaay, new stuff!" I was a tiny bit disappointed that Hyde's singing was only...decent. It was good, he sounded fine, but not impressive. Appearance-wise, I was just happy Hyde was so into it and Tetsu didn't look completely and utterly dead on his feet. XD;

With you on the Tifa thing. I'm more of an Aeris fan, and I'm still more ambivilant than actively liking Tifa, but it's not like I have anything against her either. I do like how she's developed, but I'm just...not interested? Or something. ...When it comes to FFVII, I think I like to make fun of everyone else's bad arguments more than assert my own. XD;

I'm not a huge fan of the GAME Tifa, but I do like her a lot in AC, both her character design and personality!

Heh, exactly. And I like her hair. No more dolphin tail. ;p
